Many of us have to cope with auto-immune diseases and therefore are interested in ways to reduce it’s impact on our lives.

With my recent bout of illness I thought I would see a nutritionist to see if I could improve my diet to assist my body to heal. I found that the consultation was very informative and thought I would share some of the points.

An auto-immune disease is an inflammatory disease and therefore by eating a diet filled with anti-inflammatory foods we may be able to cope better with our conditions.

What are some anti-inflammatory foods?

  • mushrooms
  • dark leafy green vegetables
  • whole grains
  • oily fish
  • organic unheated olive oil
  • moulded cheese (Blue cheese, Bree, Camemberg) – new theory but I like the idea.
  • Spices:
    1. Turmeric
    2. Cloves
    3. Ginger
    4. Rosemary
    5. Cinnamon

So curries here I come this winter. Nice comfort food for you to enjoy and it supposed to have anti-inflammatory properties.

Try to fry with oils that can handle the heat like grape seed oil.

Olive oil can apparently go safely to about 180C, and the light olive oil for cooking still higher.
