Lamb with a Spicy Sauce
Very tasty, mild stew that should be liked by most families.
Ingredients
- 1 kg lamb cubed
- 3 tbsp sunflower oil
- 1 onion finely chopped
- 4 clove
- 2 bay leaf
- 2 cinnamon stick
- 2 cups beef stock
- 200 ml plain yoghurt
- 5 ml ground turmeric
- 1 tsp garam masala
Marinade - (2 hours / a day in advance)
- 1/2 tsp chilli powder
- 6 garlic clove crushed or chopped
- 2 tbsp fresh ginger grated
- 2 tsp ground cumin
- 2 tsp ground coriander
Instructions
- Combine marinade ingredients in a large bowl.
- Add meat and allow to marinate for at least 2 hours in the fridge or overnight.
- Prepare rice according to packaging instructions (optional).
- Heat oil in a large pan, add the onion and fry until softened and slightly browned. Stir in the cloves, bay leaves and cinnamon and saute for 2 minutes. Add meat and allow to brown.
- Drop in stock and simmer for 45 minutes or until the meat is beautifully tender and most of the liquid has evaporated. Stir through the yoghurt and tumeric. Season with salt and pepper and sprinkle with garam masala. Serve with rice or another side dish.
