Frikadeller - Danish Meat Balls

One of Denmark's best loved dishes, the meat balls are either served with browned potatoes and red cabbage or eaten with a mixed salad and boiled potatoes tossed in butter.

Ingredients
  

  • 300 g beef mince
  • 300 g minced pork
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 2.5 ml Allspice
  • pepper [to taste]
  • 1 small onion [peeled and grated]
  • 60 ml milk
  • 1 medium egg [beaten]
  • butter [for frying]

Instructions
 

  • Combine meats thoroughly with flour, salt, allspice, pepper and onion.
  • Add milk and eggs then fork mix until all ingredients are evenly combined.
  • with damp hands shape into 12 or 16 ovals or rounds.
  • Fry in plenty of butter until golden brown on both sides and cooked through. Appox. 7 or 8 minutes turning twice.
  • Serve hot or cold with suggested accompaniments. You could also easily serve these as a finger food plate when guests come around.

Notes

Suggested Sides: Boiled potatoes and red cabbage.
