  • Purchase only the amount of fruit and vegetables that you can use or freeze in a week.
  • Buying perishable goods in bulk is a waste of money if you’ll not use the full quantity. Quite often you will save more if you buy exactly what you need.
  • Look out for specials on goods that have a long shelf life – buy these in bulk: tinned goods, tea, pasta, paper toweling etc.
  • When it comes to boxed, tinned and packed goods; look for less well known brands; they are often cheaper.
  • Branded goods are usually shelved at an adult’s eye level, the cheaper ones, above and below them – try the cheaper ones at least once – they might be just as good and save you a couple of rands at the end of the month – however don’t compromise on the quality.
